About Suze Garner

Suze Mary Garner is an artist and educator from Yorkshire, now living and working in the quiet beauty of the Yorkshire Dales.

Her practice is rooted in a lifelong connection to animals and the rural landscapes that shaped her. Raised in South Yorkshire within a family of farmers — her father and grandfathers devoted their lives to the land — Suze grew up surrounded by hens, cows, working dogs, and the rhythms of farm life. These early experiences continue to echo through her work, giving her paintings a sense of familiarity, warmth, and lived understanding.

Greyhounds have become another defining thread in Suze’s artistic world. After adopting her own retired greyhound, she began painting these gentle, elegant dogs with a particular tenderness.

Alongside her paintings, Suze has produced both small and large-scale CorTen steel sculptures. Her most recent public piece, The Cyclist, stands on permanent display on the roundabout in Penistone town centre.

Suze also creates bespoke commissions, capturing the individuality and quiet character of pets and farm animals in a range of mediums and sizes. She balances this creative practice with her role as an art teacher in an independent school, finding calm, focus, and a sense of grounding in the solitude of painting.

Her education includes a BA in Graphic Design from Camberwell College, University of the Arts London (2003), followed by an MA in Artist Teachers and Contemporary Practices from Goldsmiths, University of London (2013).
